Kolkata (West Bengal):The convoy of BJP national president JP Nadda was attacked today allegedly by Trinamool Congress supporters before it reached Diamond Harbour in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district.

Nadda was to address party workers in the known bastion of TMC. Trinamool supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee is the MP from Diamond Harbour.

Minutes before Nadda reached Sultanpur in Diamond Harbour to address the gathering, the party's Diamond Harbour Town president Surajit Halder was also assaulted alleged by goons owing their allegiance to the Trinamool Congress.

The incident happened when a section of BJP workers was trying to put up banners and flex in favour of Nadda and the party. BJP leaders have alleged that goons aided by local TMC satraps attacked their workers and brutally assaulted them. The injured were rushed to a local hospital.

The Trinamool Congress has rejected the allegations.

"We do not know who was behind the incident. We cannot rule out the fact that BJP is staging the incident, using their own workers against their leaders," said state minister and veteran Trinamool Congress leader Subrata Mukherjee
