West Bengal: BJP to stage statewide protests against 'irregularities' in vaccination drive

Sources in the BJP said the party’s women and youth wings will be leading the protest demonstrations throughout the state. The saffron camp will organize protest demonstrations in front of the offices of the district magistrates, sub-divisional officers and block development officers

Kolkata (West Bengal):In order to make the most out of the allegations pertaining to the Kasba vaccination camp, the BJP has decided to hold protests across West Bengal for three consecutive days next week. The party has carefully planned the three-day demonstrations after the protests it held on July 5 turned out to be a damper.

The decision was taken at a recent meeting at the party headquarters in Kolkata. BJP state general secretary Sayantan Basu said special instructions have been given to the leaders of the party's women and youth wings to ensure the demonstrations are successful. "We will write to the district magistrates seeking permission to stage protests. During the protests, we will ensure all COVID-19 protocols are adhered to," he said. The demonstrations will be organized in all the 39 organisational districts of the BJP. All senior BJP leaders will be present at these programmes. "Besides the fake vaccination camp, there are irregularities in vaccine distribution too. Almost all the district and block-level hospitals are witnessing long queues for vaccination. Besides, there are allegations about the involvement of middlemen," a senior BJP leader said. "Discontent is brewing among the people in different pockets of the state. So, it is a major political issue now and we do not want this issue to cool down," he said.
