BJP holds Mamata responsible for Cooch Behar incident

Bharatiya Janata Party has once again targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying that the incident of Cooch Behar and Dharna Pradarshan in the state is a result of her provocative statement against the Election Commission and Reserve Forces. Meanwhile, the party has also requested people to refrain from going to the Kumbh Mela to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday took a jibe at the TMC Chief Mamata Benerjee over the protest against the Election Commission for barring her from campaigning and alleged her of politicizing the Cooch Behar incident.

In a conversation with ETV Bharat, BJP National spokesperson Gopal Agarwal lashed out at West Bengal Chief Minister over protest against Election Commission and her statement against Reserve Police Force saying that the kind of politics she is doing is not good for people of the state. He added that she provoked her party workers against forces which lead to a clash that broke out in Cooch Behar claiming the lives of 5 people.

Getting sarcastic he said that "TMC has accepted that Narendra Modi led BJP will form a government in the state, so Mamata Benerjee should accept her defeat with respect, this is what is expected of her in the democratic system."

While speaking on Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhand he said that the gathering of devotees in large number is a matter of concern amid the rising cases of coronavirus in the state.

He admitted that it is not possible for the state government to adopt social distancing under the Covid-19 protocol in such a crowd.

It has been observed that all necessary measures like wearing a mask, sanitizer, and social distancing have not been followed properly due to the throng of devotees in the Mela, Gopal added.

He said that in such a high time of the pandemic, only saints should participate in Kumbh as the cases of covid is increasing with high rate and suggested people to follow the instructions of the government keeping the religious sentiments limited.
