TMC denies beheading allegations after clash

Supporters of the BJP and TMC clashed in West Bengal's Durgapur as the ruling party accused the saffron party of attempting to illegally occupy a piece of land in the name of constructing a Hanuman temple. The BJP alleged that its supporter was beheaded in the violence, but the TMC has refuted the allegation.

Durgapur (West Bengal): Clashes broke out between supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) over allegations of illegal land occupation in West Bengal's Durgapur.

According to reports, a monkey had died in a field in Durgapur's Ruidas Para in December last year. The monkey was subsequently buried in the same field, following which BJP supporters expressed their desire to build a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman on the field.

The BJP supporters organsised a pooja on the field, and began constructing the temple.

However, as the construction began, TMC supporters from the neighbournhood alleged that the BJP occupied the entire field illegally.

The two sides reportedly broke into an argument, which subsequently transformed into clashes.

The BJP alleged that one of its supporters was beheaded in the violence -- a charge refuted by the ruling party.

Meanwhile, a TMC supporter said that even they wanted the temple to be built, but alleged that the BJP supporters wanted to occupy the entire piece of land in the name of a temple.

The two sides lodged complaints with the Durgapur Police, following which cops visited the incident. Patrolling was also started in the area on Monday.
