Santiniketan (West Bengal): The prices of petrol, diesel and gas are currently sky-rocketing, leaving many private vehicle owners unable to afford the cost of fuel spurring the country’s transport industry to agitate for change. Several opposition MPs led by Rahul Gandhi in wake of this price rise, cycled to Parliament to highlight the issue. Some opposition MPs, who could not cycle, walked down to Parliament.
To give slight relief to the people, Dr Purnabrata Chakraborty, a scientist based out of Bolpur (Santiniketan), has been successful in extracting petrol and gas out of plastics.
Already, his research on this count has been acknowledged by the Intellectual Property Rights Department under the Union government. "I received the acknowledgement in June this year, '' said Chakraborty. He has been doing his research in this field for the last 12 years. The machine invented by him easily extracts fuel and gas from plastics and the process also does not involve air pollution. If oil and gas can be extracted out of plastics, then it will be doubly beneficial. He has already set up a fuel- extraction machine at his residence in Santiniketan.
