Chamoli (Uttarakhand): There was a time when inland letters were a powerful medium to carry messages between people. On seeing the postman, people used to run in expectation of getting a letter. Today in the digital age the ubiquitous Inland letter of the Department of Posts is becoming a history.
However, the inland letter has become much discussed in Chamoli these days.

This is an inland letter on which Sundaramani Mandoli, a resident of Fali village in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, has printed the wedding invitation of his son Manish serving in the army.
The wedding is due on March 12.
He has printed wedding invitation on an inland letter to invite more than 1,500 guests. Mandoli has done so to reignite the joy of receiving inland letters which have become a rarity.

"My father was also posted in the Army at a time when there was no facility of communication like telephone, mobile phones and inland letter card was the only mean to communicate. When the postman used to give the letter written by my father on the inland card, my mother used to be happy. I also have my son's wedding card printed on inland letter card," Mandoli said.
However, he claimed that due to the inland letter cards not being in circulation over time, he had to struggle a lot to collect these cards.
