Kotdwar (Uttarakhand): The last rites of martyred Army JCO Subedar Swatantra Singh were performed with full military honours at his native village Udiyari of Uttarakhand's Pauri Garwal on Saturday.
Amid chants of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Vande Mataram", several people adhering to COVID safety norms and wearing face masks, participated in the funeral procession and bid a tearful adieu to Singh.
According to reports, Singh was killed as Pakistani troops shelled and fired on forward posts and villages along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Thursday.
The unprovoked ceasefire violation took place in Qasba and Kirni sectors in the district. Following which Singh was injured in the firing and was taken to a military hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.
