Uttarakhand postpones Chardham Yatra

The state government has said it will decide on opening the Chardham Yatra later. Earlier it said devotees from the Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi districts can visit the yatra sites if they carried a negative Covid-19 report.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): Uttarakhand government on Tuesday postponed the start of the Chardham Yatra. Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal said that a hearing regarding the yatra is underway at Nainital High Court and the government will decide about it after June 16.

This comes a day after Uniyal had announced that the residents of Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi districts have been permitted to visit the Char Dham sites of Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri-Yamunotri if they carry a negative Covid-19 report.

The Uttarakhand government on Monday extended the Covid-19 curfew in the hill state by one more week to June 22. During the extended lockdown, markets will open for three days a week and sweet shops can do business for five days. Autorickshaws have also been allowed to operate in cities.
