UNESCO World Heritage Valley of Flowers opens for tourists

The world-famous UNSECO World Heritage Valley of Flowers National Park has been opened for tourists from today. The Valley of Flowers is spread over an area of ​​87.50 km. It was declared a national park by UNESCO in 1982.

Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, this beautiful valley boasts more than 500 species of flowers including several rare species of flora and fauna.

The Valley of Flowers was opened for tourists on August 15 last year due to the Covid-19 infection. 942 domestic and foreign tourists visited the Valley of Flowers. But this year the valley has been opened for tourists 45 days earlier than the previous year. Therefore, the tourism department expects an increase in the arrival of tourists.

Amit Kanwar, Director of Nanda Devi Biosphere, says that after consultations with high-level officials, the decision was taken to open the Valley of Flowers for tourists. He added that he has visited the valley for three days and took stock of the arrangements. The repair work of foot roads and footbridges in the valley was completed before June 1.

Amit Kanwar also added that keeping with existing guidelines of Covid-19, tourists from other states can come to see the Valley of Flowers. They have to carry a mandatory negative RT-PCR and rapid antigen test report within 72 hours.

The months of July, August and September are considered the best time to visit the Valley of Flowers National Park. In the month of September, rare species of Brahma Kamal blooms here. Govindghat is the last bus stand of Chamoli district, from there one has to trek around 13 KM to reach the entry point of the beautiful Valley of Flowers.
