Pithoragarh:Heavy rains and subsequent landslides have completely destroyed a portion of the Munsiyari-Lilam road connecting Uttarakhand to China border. The road constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), has been damaged forcing the ITBP personnel to risk their lives to reach the border areas.

According to reports, the armed forces personnel are now forced to climb the rocky hill and tough terrains in Pithoragarh district.

Although the BRO is busy opening this route, they have left this portion of the road untended. At the same time, the bailey bridge built, which was recently restored, is also on the verge of collapse after developing cracks in the supporting pillars.

Due to closure of the road, the supply of essential good to the last posts along the China border has also been interrupted.

At the same time, a dozen of villages in the Chaudas Valley along the China border also remains out of bounds for district administration.

Following the unprecedented violent clash between Indian and Chinese troops at the steep rocky heights of the Galwan river gorge, BRO has landed heavy equipment to expedite work of strategic Munsiyari-Bugdiyar-Milam road in Uttarakhand.

Once completed, the Munsiyari-Bogdiyar- Milam road, which is being constructed in the high Himalayan region of Johar Valley in the state's Pithoragarh district, will be a link to the last posts on the Indo-China border.

After connecting Lipulekh to the road, the BRO has now accelerated the road cutting from Milam to China border. The absence of heavy stone cutting equipment at Laspa near the alignment site of the 65-km road had delayed its construction.
