Chamoli: Uttrakhand government has denied having any information that the Chinese army has destroyed infrastructure and a bridge near the Barahoti area on the Indian border on August 30.

According to sources, over 100 soldiers of the People Liberation Army(PLA) had infiltrated the Line Of Actual Control(LOC) in Uttarakhand on August 30 and had destroyed the bridge near the Barahoti area. However, they returned within an hour.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday stated that "I got the information through media only but there is no such official information related to the matter as of now. This is a job of investigating agency and they are looking into it."

Sources said that as a retaliatory strategy, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) deployed in the area has conducted patrolling along the border. The matter came to light when both the countries were engaged in border conflict since last year.

According to an official, when the patrolling teams of both the nation come across, then a situation of confrontation arises.

Official added that Badahoti, a valley area spread in 80 square kilometres, is located to the north of the Nanda Devi National Park in Uttarakhand. It is one of the three border areas in the 'Middle Sector' of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand where ITBP cannot carry arms.

Beginning on 5 May 2020, Chinese and Indian troops engaged in aggressive melee, face-offs and skirmishes at locations along the Sino-Indian border, including near the disputed Pangong Lake in Ladakh and the Tibet Autonomous Region, and near the border between Sikkim and the Tibet Autonomous Region.
