No casualties reported in Uttarakhand train compartment fire

A coach of the Dehradun-New Delhi Shatabdi Express on Saturday caught fire between Raiwala and Kansrao railway station in Uttarakhand, officials said. No passenger was injured.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand):No injuries or casualties were reported in the fire which broke out in the C4 compartment of the Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express train earlier on Saturday.

As per Uttarakhand Director General of Police Ashok Kumar, the fire has been brought under control.

"The fire which broke out in the C4 compartment of the Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express train today has been brought under control. All passengers safe," Kumar said.

"Janashtabdi left for Dehradun at around 11.40 AM along with 316 passengers from Haridwar. After crossing Harrawala railway station, a train bogie caught fire while moving a forest near Kansro railway station. The fire was so fierce that the C4 compartment of the Express train was burnt to ashes," said, ASP GRP, Manoj Kumar Katyal.

"Visuals from the incident earlier in the day showed huge flames burning and smoke billowing from the windows. The affected coach has been detached from the rest of the coaches and kept a sufficient distance away. A total of 35 passengers in the coach were shifted and adjusted in other coaches. The train departed for its destination in Haridwar. After the incident, the railway administration has sent 8 bogies to Dehradun," said Katyal.
