Lucknow: National Botanical Research Institute laboratory in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh has developed a decongestant inhaler which provides relief and temporarily alleviate congestion caused by wearing a mask.
NBRI develop decongestant inhaler to alleviate suffocation caused by masks The nasal inhaler is ayurvedic and the base of it consists of vegetable oil as its main ingredient and according to scientists it does not cause any side effects.
Institute director Dr S K Barik says the decongestant inhaler is based on essential oils which helps in removing congestion from nasal passage and upper trachea. People suffering from running nose and cough can spray this decongestant on the mask before wearing it.

Chief scientist Dr Sharad Srivastava, who has developed the inhaler, says some people experience discomfort in breathing because of wearing mask, a habit now mandated by the government amidst surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.
During the lockdown, policemen and frontline health workers need to wear mask for a long period of time.
Further a test was carried out on over 100 people who have to wear a mask for a longer while on duty. The institute also gave a demonstration on how to use this Ayurvedic decongestant.
