More troops deployed near Geldung border in Uttarakhand

ITBP and Indian Army troops, who had been stationed at the check-posts near the Niti, Malari, and Gamshali villages in Uttarakhand, have now been moved towards the Chinese border near Geldung, around 25 kilometres away from Niti.

Chamoli (Uttarakhand): Following the violent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh's Galwan Valley, deployment of personnel has reportedly been increased towards the Chinese border in Uttarakhand's Geldung.

According to residents of Niti village, movement of troops towards the border has increased over the past few days.

According to villagers, many troops, who were earlier stationed at camps near the villages of Gamshali, Malari, and Niti, have now been deployed at Geldung, which is 25 kilometres from Niti.

While at least 75 ITNP and Indian Army personnel earlier used to be stationed at the Vimlas check-post near Niti, only around five remain now, indicating that they have been moved further towards the border.

Pertinently, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and multiple units of the Indian Army have also increased their presence at the Indo-China Border along the Nelong valley region in Uttarakhand.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, the army said: “During the de-escalation process underway in the Galwan Valley, a violent face-off took place yesterday (Monday) night with casualties on both sides.The loss of lives on the Indian side includes an officer and two soldiers. Senior military officials of the two sides are currently meeting at the venue to defuse the situation.
