Pithoragarh: With the onset of the monsoon, scary pictures of landslides have started emerging from the hilly areas of Uttarakhand. One such recent incident has been reported from Pithoragarh where a part of a hill over the Saryu river collapsed due to incessant rains. The landslide has caused traffic disruption on National Highway 125. Fortunately, the vehicle parked on the Tanakpur-Pithoragarh national highway narrowly escaped the landslide.
Police were pressed into action for rescue work but no injuries have been reported so far. Notably, the Tanakpur-Pithoragarh national highway, connecting China and Nepal borders, has been converted into an all-weather road. The state witness a series of landslides across the region amid monsoon season risking lives and leaving travellers stranded. The landslide has also led to the closure of the national highway for the last three days disrupting the supply of essential services in the border district.
