Dehradun (Uttarakhand): After holding the fort for nearly three months and winning decisive battles at Tiger Hill and Tololing, the Indian Army went for the kill in the last week of July 1999 and emerged victorious after successfully driving out Pakistani intruders.
Of the 526 Bravehearts who sacrificed their lives for the country in the Kargil war, 75 were from Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.
They had fought courageously for the nation and ultimately had to sacrifice their lives in order to keep the enemies at bay.
47 soldiers of the Garhwal Rifles were martyred in the Kargil war. Out of which 41 were from Uttarakhand, while 16 soldiers from the Kumaon Regiment had sacrificed their lives.
