Ramnagar: The Jim Corbett National Park administration has accorded 'martyr' status to its personnel who sacrificed their lives while protecting the animals residing in the forested wildlife sanctuary. As a mark of respect, the park, known for housing Royal Bengal tigers, has put up a plaque with the names of those martyr workers at the Dhangarhi gate, the entrance gate of the park, so that the tourists visiting the sanctuary may also get a chance to know them.
According to officials, from 1982 to 2019, about 12 forest workers made their supreme sacrifice in the service of Jim Corbett National Park. Most of them were killed while protecting the park while others were killed in the attack by wild animals including tigers, leopards and elephants.
