Harish Rawat tells Cong leaders not to comment on anti-BJP posts

Senior Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat cautioned party cadres not to comment on social media posts against the BJP. He said the BJP would entangle people in cases even if they make harmless comments against the saffron party.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): After a Congress worker from Uttarakhand was booked for his alleged comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior party leader and former chief minister Harish Rawat asked Congress leaders and "free-thinking" individuals to exercise caution.

"Congress leaders and free-thinking people should be careful. If any cartoon somewhere seems to resemble any top leader of the BJP, then do not comment on it," Rawat said in a tweet in Hindi.

"Even if you make a 'vegetarian' comment, BJP will become 'non-vegetarian' and pounce on you. You will find yourself entangled in so many cases that you will start to give up. Now we will have to pray to God for freedom of expression," he added.

Rawat's remarks come after Congress leader Manish Karnwal, said to be close to the former chief minister, was earlier this week booked for his alleged abusive comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook.

A case was registered against Karnwal based on the complaint against him by BJP MLA from Jwalapur Suresh Rathor.
