Haldwani (Uttarakhand):The Forest Research Centre here planted as many as 20 trees and named the garden in honour of soldiers who were martyred in a violent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops on Monday.

The garden named 'Galwan Vatika' commemorates the sacrifice of the soldiers who were killed in the Galwan valley of Eastern Ladakh.

The Galwan Vatika includes trees of Peepal, Banyan, Black Plum, Indian gooseberry and Guava.

While talking to ETV Bharat, Forest Range Officer Madan Bisht said that the centre has decided to plant trees in the remembrance of the 20 martyred soldiers.

"We have planted those trees which can be beneficial for human beings, birds and various species. Whenever a human being consumes the fruit from the Galvan Vatika, he/she must remember those soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country's protection", added Bisht.

The Forest Range Officer also informed that the centre had planted as many as 40 trees to commemorate soldiers martyred in the 2019 Pulwama attack.
