FRI campus out of quarantine after 28-day lockdown

The Indira Gandhi National Forest Research Institute which had undergone 28-day lockdown, after three trainee IFS officers tested positive for COVID-19, was freed from lockdown on Friday. However, the quarantine and isolation centre at the institute will remain operational till further orders.

Dehradun:The Indira Gandhi National Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, which had undergone 28-day lockdown as per the containment plan, COVID-19 of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, after three trainee IFS officers tested positive for COVID-19, was freed from lockdown on Friday.

As per reports, the first case of coronavirus in the state was reported from the institute, after one of the 43 officers who had returned from a foreign visit was found be coronavirus positive.

However, the quarantine and isolation centre at the institute will remain operational till further orders.

Additionally, all movement in the said campus/building will remain restricted till further orders and the lockdown in force in the district will be applicable in this area too.

Apparently, there were 400 to 500 employees inside the institute when the lockdown was imposed. Nearly 1600 families reside in staff quarters inside the institute’s campus.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Dehradun SDM Gopal Ram said, "The lockdown was imposed due to the pandemic and it has now been lifted after 28 days."

"All the three infected officers have fully recovered and the condition of all those quarantined within the institute premises is also normal," he added.

"The movement of tourists and outsiders is prohibited due to ongoing lockdown. Only the employees and officers can pass through the campus during the relaxation period," he concluded.
