Champawat: The Indian authorities on Wednesday inspected the 'No Man's Land' between India and Nepal border near Brahmadev in Tanakpur. India and Nepal have open borders and relations between the two countries are tense due to border disputes.

To resolve the border dispute, the joint team of the two countries started the survey of the border last year. But due to the pandemic, the survey had to be stopped midway. During the last lockdown, there were controversies when Nepal encroached on the disputed 'No Man's Land' near Brahmadev (Nepal) close to the Tanakpur border.

This year too, border dispute has risen again due to the excavation done by Nepal and the construction of a tin-shed and a culvert for the Peace Restoration Home (PCR) in Brahmadev. However, on the objection of the Indian administration, Nepal stopped the construction of the culvert and shifted the tin shed slightly towards Nepal.

On Monday, a team of police and SSB officials led by SDM Himanshu Kafaltia inspected the encroachment site. The SDM said that officials of Nepal APF (Armed Police Force) have been asked not to allow encroachment and to remove encroachments done earlier. The team also included CO Avinash Verma of Tanakpur and SSB officials.

The border dispute between the two countries remains due to the disappearance of Border Pillars on the Nepal border adjoining Tanakpur.
