Roorkee (Uttarakhand) : Firing took place between police and cow smugglers in the Bahadarabad police station area of Haridwar district late last night. One miscreant was shot in the leg and got injured due to the bullet. Also, a constable of Roorkee SOG was injured. Other cow smugglers ran away from the spot even as the police are actively searching for the absconding miscreants.
The injured constable and the miscreant are being treated at Roorkee Civil Hospital. Haridwar SSP Ajay Singh had instructed the police and SOG teams of all police station police stations to curb the incidents of cow slaughter across the district, due to which the police got the information late on Saturday night that some cow smugglers were coming to Saharanpur. They entered the border of the Haridwar district. On receiving the information, police and SOG started searching for cow smugglers by forming separate teams.
As the police team increased the search for the smugglers between Badhedi Rajputana and Core College in the Bahadarabad police station area, there was a face-off. Bahadarabad police station chief Nitesh Sharma along with SOG Roorkee in-charge Manohar Bhandari surrounded the miscreants with their teams and asked them to surrender, on which the cow smugglers fired at the police in a bid to escape.
