Devotees to only take 3 dips in Ganga, rules Haridwar police

The decision comes keeping in view the COVID protocols, to implement which, policemen would be deployed at various ghats including the main Har Ki Pauri Ghat. According to the state police, these policemen would ensure that the ghats don't get overcrowded and every devotee gets a chance to take a holy dip in the Ganga.

Haridwar:The Kumbh Mela police at Haridwar has mandated that devotees would be allowed to take only three dips in the holy Ganga during their visit to the Kumbh Mela, 2021.

The decision comes keeping in view the COVID protocols, to implement which, policemen would be deployed at various ghats including the main Har Ki Pauri Ghat.

According to the state police, these policemen would ensure that the ghats don't get overcrowded and every devotee gets a chance to take a holy dip in the Ganga.

Kumbh Mela IG Sanjay Gunjyal says that according to Sanatan Dharma, meditation and chanting are very important after bathing and when there is a large crowd it becomes the responsibility of the policemen to ensure order and accommodate more and more people in minimum time.

The Kumbh Mela started on January 14, 2021, and according to popular belief, the devotees should take three dips in the Ganges and other holy rivers.

The scriptures also describe the three dips in the Ganga as very important and if done properly, the Trideva - Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh can be attained.

Jyotishacharya Prateek Mishra Puri says that the origin of the Ganga has been from Brahma's kamandal and flowing through the feet of Lord Vishnu, she rests on the forehead of Lord Shiva.

If one takes a dip in the holy river during the auspicious Kumbh Mela, facing east, they get rid of all their bad deeds and are blessed.
