Char Dham Yatra will be polythene free

The Chaar Dham Yatra to Badrinath is going to start in the next few days. This time the Commissioner of Garhwal district has decided to implement 'Athithi Devo Bhava' and 'Zero plastic' during the yatra. Every year more than 1,060,000 pilgrims visit the temple. Therefore the amount of plastic garbage is also a big problem after the yatra ends. So, in order to bring a safe side for the environment, Uttrakhand is ready for the plastic ban.

Pauri (Garhwal): There are few days left in the journey of four abodes (Char Dham Yatra), so the preparations by the government also tend to finish this week.

This time the Commissioner of Garhwal district has decided two themes, the first one is 'Atithi Devo Bhava' and the other one is 'Zero Polythene.'

Talking to the media, Commissioner V V R C Purushottam said, "we are trying to give the pilgrims a bunch of sweet memories and amazing experience when they visit Uttrakhand. So, we have decided to ban the use of plastics during the yatra.

This will not only helps the environment but also pilgrims in continuing the journey smoothly. Every year after the yatra ends, a large number of plastic waste had been collected by the municipality workers."

Regarding the weather, the commissioner said that the routes will be provided JCB machines so that debris can be removed immediately and the journey will be conducted smoothly.

The Badrinath temple is open for six months every year (between the end of April and the beginning of November), because of extreme weather conditions in the Himalayan region.

The temple is located in Garhwal hill tracks in Chamoli district along the banks of Alaknanda River.

It is one of the most visited pilgrimage centers of India, having recorded 1,060,000 visits.
