'Thousands raped in Uttarakhand in last 19 years'

The state government has spent 4 crores 81 lakh 80 thousand rupees as financial assistance to the rape victims and Rs 17 lakh 90 thousand has been provided to acid attack victims, according to a report.

Haldwani (Uttarakhand):About four thousand women have been raped in Uttarakhand over the last 19 years, according to the information received under the Right to Information Act.

According to the information, in the last 19 years, 3956 cases of rape of women have been registered in the state, while 19 cases of acid attacks have also been reported.

In the information sought under the Right to Information Act from the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Haldwani resident Hemant Gonia said that police have registered rape cases of 3956 women under different police stations till the year 2019.

While 4 crore 81 lakh 80 thousand rupees have been spent by the government as financial assistance to the rape victims and financial assistance of Rs 17 lakh 90 thousand has been provided to the acid attack victims.

RTI activist Hemant Gonia said that the graph of crime is increasing continuously in the quiet plains of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. The incidents of rape are increasing every year, but no concrete law is being implemented by the government to prevent incidents of rape. As a result, the incidences of rape are increasing.

In such a situation, the government should immediately take strict action against the culprits by giving justice to the victim in the incidents of rape and acid attack.
