Army buildup in Uttarkashi as India-China tension escalates

In the wake of prevailing situation between Indian and Chinese forces, army vigilance has increased in the border areas of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. Local sources say the influx of army vehicles is also increasing in the border areas.

Uttarkashi: Amid the ongoing India-China border tension, army movement near Uttarkashi border has intensified, a source said.

According to the reports, a surge in military activities has been noticed near the Indo-China border areas, army and ITBP personnel have increased the vigilance in the border areas.

The armed forces, guarding India's borders, have reportedly been asked to remain on high alert amid the rise in tensions along the Line of Actual Control, sources said.

In the midst of the increased military activities, villagers near Uttarkashi border have also started speculating war.

Local sources say ITBP personnel in Nelang Valley have been stationed at the forward posts with full vigour.

The boundaries of Chamoli and Pithoragarh district including Uttarkashi lies close to the Indo-China border.

However, so far China has not dared to infiltrate the international border near Uttarkashi, the main reason is the heterogeneous geographical conditions of the region, a source in the army said.

There has been a constant threat of infiltration from Indo-Tibet trade routes in the past. In view of this, the army along with ITBP has also increased patrolling and vigilance on the border.

For the past week, there has been an increase in army activities near Nelang and Harsil Valley. Indian Air Force fighter aircraft have been keeping an eye on the international border adjoining Uttarkashi for the last two weeks so that every movement of China can be monitored.

Further, the influx of army vehicles is also increasing in the border areas.
