After commentary in Hindi and English, now listen to cricket commentary in Sanskrit

Sanskrit, one of the oldest languages has the status of the second state language of Uttarakhand. During a cricket match, the commentary has been conducted in the Sanskrit language in Uttarakhand's Pauri.

Pauri: We all have listened to cricket commentary in Hindi or English, but now for the first time listeners will be entertained with a cricket commentary in Sanskrit. This unique experiment has been done in Pauri district of Uttarakhand.

During a cricket match played at the Sanskrit University, the commentary was conducted in the Sanskrit language. A video of the same was also recorded by the students. The unique video gained viral traction on social media.

Sanskrit, one of the oldest languages has the status of the second state language of Uttarakhand. With fast-changing times this heritage is being lost in the sands of time. In these changing times, a lot has changed for good, but unfortunately we have lost ground with the Sanskrit language which is now on the verge of extinction. The officers of the education department have taken up the task to reconnect people with Sanskrit language.

Sports activities were being organised at the Sanskrit school in the Pauri district. Activities included racing, long jump etc and were witnessing participation from students in large numbers.

The main objective of the event was to reinvent our lost heritage and ancient culture. The event saw the participation of more than 200 students from 11 schools of the district.

The event saw not only commentary in Sanskrit but the students were also educated about the importance of the language.

Vajshrava Arya, Additional Director with the Cultural Education department was the chief guest at the event. During his address, he said that the Sanskrit language is very ancient and should not be restricted to religious rituals. The language should be given practical importance so that more and more people use it in their daily lives. The objective of these events is to promote the language, and that is why commentary is being done in Sanskrit.

In India, once Sanskrit was the prime language, now it has been overshadowed by English. In India, English speaking is considered to be a thing of pride and there are numerous English teaching institutes in every corner of the country.

There is no harm in learning and accepting any new language, but it is not correct to forget your own language in the process.
