Women's Day Special: Weakness becomes strength, Seema is giving new identity to women

Seema Tiwari of Jhansi district has overcome obstacles by her self confidence. Specially-abled Seema Tiwari has set an example before the society. Seema Tiwari runs training programs for self-employment for economically weaker girls and women. She has received many awards for her work from the government.

Jhansi: If the will is strong then all the obstacles of the world become small. Seema Tiwari of Jhansi is one such strong willed person, who has set an example for society. Seema Tiwari lost both her legs and spine during an encounter with dacoits, yet she did not give up hope.

While fighting adversity, Seema started a training program for self-employment for economically weaker girls and women and thus established her distinct identity in the society. Seema has received many honors and awards, including Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, National Inspiration Source Award from the Government of India.

Physically incapacitated during robbery

Seema Tiwari was born in Gwalior. During her stay there, her house was attacked by dacoits on February 18,1996. Seema dodged the dacoits and jumped from the roof and ran to the police for help. Her spine got fractured because of her jump affecting both her legs which became weak.

Shortly after the incident, Seema came to Jhansi. But this incident made Seema physically disabled. She remained in bed for a long time.

Training for economically weaker girls

The incident only made Seema specially-abled. But as they say 'those who try can never be defeated'. Seema made this saying meaningful in her life. After coming to Jhansi from Gwalior, Seema started to teach girls how to make soft toys. Many institutions supported Seema in this venture and also honored her.

Sought help from CM

Seema wrote a letter to the Chief Minister about her problem and asked for help. When things started improving, she increased here social work activities. According to Seema, only those who have suffered can better understand the suffering of others. In the year 2010, she got a contract job in Cantonment Board.

Earned money spent on the organization

Seema says that after getting the job, she started helping people by creating an organization called 'Udaan'. She said she spend a portion of her earning from her job on her organization. Through this institution, she trained women living in slums and motivated them for self-employment.

The organisation also works for the elderly and the differently-abled people to help them realize their dreams She says that her organization does not take donation from anyone nor does it take any fund from the government. Whatever she gets as award, she spends on the organization. Seema said that she has deposited all her earnings from the award in bank as fixed deposit and runs her social work from the interest.

Received many awards

Seema Tiwari was awarded the Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar Bravery Award under Yash Bharti in 2015 by the then Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. She was honored with 'Nari Samman' of Madhya Pradesh Women's Commission. In the year 2019, Seema was awarded the 'National Inspiration Source' award by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu. Apart from these, Seema has received many more awards.

Motivates women for education

According to Seema Tiwari, every woman and girl should be educated. She lost both her legs when the robbery took place, but she had education which she has put to good use.
