Bareilly: A woman allegedly tortured her 10-year-old step-daughter and stabbed her to death in Ijjatnagar area in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, police said on Tuesday.
The accused mother has been identified as Ritu, wife of Ravi Babu, an employee of the Municipal corporation in Bareilly. Police have arrested both the husband and wife.
According to police sources, the incident took place at around 2 PM on August 22, when the girl was sleeping and her stepmother kicked her in the face for not finishing household chores.
Following this, the girl and Ritu had an argument and in a fit of rage, the latter stabbed her more than 15 times killing her on the spot. Girl's stepmother, Ritu and her father had helped her bury the body inside the house, police sources informed.
The deceased minor was frequently physically abused by her stepmother. Neighbours said violence had been a disturbing recurrence in the household. When she suddenly disappeared, the neighbours grew suspicious and lodged a missing complaint.
On being informed about the incident, police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. Police exhumed the minor girl’s lacerated body on Sunday and sent it for post-mortem.
Later, police interrogated the deceased girl’s parents and they confessed to the murder. Police said that her stepmother and aunt had killed her on Thursday and her father had helped bury the body inside their home.
Subsequently, the deceased girl’s parents were arrested and sent to jail while her aunt is absconding and efforts are on to nab her.
The post-mortem report on Monday confirmed the girl had been tortured with a baton and stabbed more than 15 times. Her internal organs were severely damaged, faeces spilling out of her intestines, police sources said.
The three have been booked for murder and concealing evidence. Police have recovered the knife which was for committing the crime. Further investigation is underway.
