'Khoob jamegi jab...': UP police takes prisoner liquor shopping

Hamirpur (UP):In a bizarre show of bonhomie between a cop and criminal, a policeman in Uttar Pradesh was seen escorting an undertrial prisoner to a liquor shop in the Hamirpur area. A photograph of the cop waiting behind the prisoner as the latter bought liquor has gone viral on social media triggering an outcry. The image captures the policeman standing beside the prisoner near the liquor store situated at King Road.

According to reports, the prisoner was arrested under Section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and was being taken to court from the police station when the incident occurred. He was accompanied by two cops, one of whom assisted him in purchasing alcohol from the liquor store on the way.

The entire incident was recorded by a bystander and posted on social media, causing it to go viral."Mitra police, who take care of the criminals, will not find anything in any kingdom. In response, the Hamirpur Superintendent of Police issued a statement confirming that the policeman in question is being investigated. "We have issued orders to take action against the cop who was escorting the accused. At the same time, instructions have also been given for an inquiry against his seniors as well," the SP said.

This is not the first instance of police officers behaving inappropriately with prisoners in Uttar Pradesh. In March, a video of four policemen taking a prisoner into a shopping mall in Lucknow went viral, leading to the suspension of the police personnel involved. According to reports, the prisoner was allowed to visit a government hospital after complaining of health issues. He was taken to the hospital by the police officers and, after receiving medical treatment, was required to return to jail. On the way back, the officers took him to a shopping mall.
