Village adopted by Home Minister Rajnath Singh in shambles

Pratapgarh:Union Home Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh, in 2014, had adopted a village in Pratapgarh district under the 'Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana'.

But even after 5 years of its adoption, the condition of Benti village has hardly improved. People are still awaiting development here.

Though PCC roads have been built in some areas of the village, the drainage system is still in a pathetic state.

Besides, the water woes are never-ending. Hand-pumps have been installed, but are defunct. Villagers allege that despite highlighting the woes, no government assistance has come their way.

The village also lacks basic sanitation. Villagers allege that the sanitation workers work in a very arbitrary and are very irregular.

After adopting the village, Singh had promised to restore the 200-year-old Shiva temple also, but no work has been done in thatdirection as well.

Hiralal, a resident of the village says that the roads built in the village were only for namesake and far from usable.

"Only some parts of the village are developed a bit. Rest is disordered," he says.

Echoing similar views, Prem Shankar said that a hand pump is located right next to the drain, therefore the water has to be taken out from the drain from a bucket every time.

"The authorities have not done anything truly beneficial," Shankar said.

Lakshmi, who is also a resident villager said that the first task of the Home Minister was meant to improve the road conditions but the monsoon showers every year exposes the sub-standard quality.

Over the years, although some work was done during the past years including the opening of Oriental Bank, making it easy for people to get financial transactions, building of a water tank, installation of solar lights etc.
