Uttar Pradesh MLA writes to CM demanding probe into death of youth

Dadri MLA Tejpal Singh Nagar has written a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding a fair and thorough investigation into the death of a 20-year-old woman in a road accident in Bulandshahr district, amid reports suggesting that mishap took place while she was trying to escape harassment by some miscreants.

Bulandshahr:Twodays after Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddha Nagar girl Sudiksha Bhati, who got Rs 3.83 crore scholarship to study in the US died after falling off from the bike, Dadri MLA Tejpal Singh Nagar on Wednesday wrote a letter to chief minister Yogi Adityanath demanding a fair and thorough investigation into the case, amid reports suggesting that mishap took place while she was trying to escape harassment by some miscreants.

The incident has led to a political furore with the Opposition slamming the Yogi Adityanath government for deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

Meanwhile, the Bulandshahr Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) constituted a three-member SIT, led by Circle Officer (city) Diksha Singh, to probe the matter.

Mentioning that the mishap took place due to molestation, the legislator said that speedy justice should be given to the family of the victim.

However, the police claimed that Sudiksha was killed in an accident and no one was chasing her Scooty. ASP Srivastava said the woman's brother had not mentioned anything about harassment to the police at the time of the incident.

Highlighting the financial condition of the victim's family, Nagar wrote that the promising scholar, belongs to a backward family and they should be paid a compensation of Rs 25 lakh.

National Commission of Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma had also wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh DGP HC Awasthy and asked him to ensure a swift, fair, and thorough investigation in the matter.

Bhati, who was on a visit home from the US where she studied, died in a road accident on Monday morning. Her family members said she had come to India due to the coronavirus pandemic and was scheduled to go back to the US on August 20.
