Lucknow: Former chief of Shia Central Waqf Board Waseem Rizvi has alleged that he has received a threat from Pakistan via WhatsApp message. A complaint was lodged at Mahanagar Kotwali police station on Tuesday and the case has been registered. Rizvi lodged a complaint on the Chief Minister's portal alleging it to be a threat from Pakistan. Later, the case was over to the Metropolitan Police.

Meanwhile, sparking controversy, Rizvi's driver's wife has lodged a complaint against him alleging harassment on Tuesday. Rizvi has been hitting headlines frequently. On April 29, Rizvi had claimed that he received a death threat from a Bihar-based man. In a video message, he said he got a video call from Bihar in which the caller threatened to shoot him. Following this, he lodged an FIR against the unknown person at Lucknow's Shahdatgang police station.

Earlier, he was entangled in the Holy Quran controversy. Rizvi had filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking directions to remove 26 verses of the Quran for violating the laws of the land and allegedly promoting extremism and terrorism. However, the apex court had dismissed his plea. Since then, he has been facing widespread criticism.

In September last year, he wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to scrap the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991 -- brought by the then Congress government -- and rebuild the temples, which were demolished by the Mughal emperors during their rule.
