UP woman raped, assaulted at gunpoint; accused held

A man hailing from Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad has been arrested for allegedly raping and assaulting a woman.

Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh): A woman of Dilari village under Jalalpur police limits in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad was allegedly raped and assaulted by a youth from the same neighbourhood. Police have arrested the youth and started interrogating him.

According to police, the incident took place three days ago when the victim was alone at home. The accused, identified as Arvind barged into her house and raped her at gunpoint.

Before leaving, the accused allegedly threatened her of dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. However, when the victim said that she would confide in her mother the accused physically assaulted her and pushed off the roof, police said.

On being informed about the incident, immediately victims family rushed her to a nearby hospital in Moradabad. The victim's family lodged a complaint with Moradabad police station against Arvind.

Later a police team headed by the SSP, Prabhakar Choudhury launched a manhunt and nabbed the accused. According to the police, the accused confessed to the crime during interrogation. A case has been filed against the accused on Wednesday under rape and other IPC charges, police added.
