UP woman gives birth to quintuplet amid nationwide lockdown

A young woman from Uttar pradesh gave birth to five children at the district hospital on Wednesday, the newborns include two boys and three girls.

Lucknow: Amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown, a woman in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh gave birth to five preterm infants on Wednesday, at Barabanki’s Community Health centre (CHC), a source said.

While two of the infants weigh 1.2 kg, two other weigh 900 gm and the fifth has the lowest, 800 gm. According to CHC in-charge Dr Rajarshi Triapthi, Anita’s delivery has happened after 28 weeks of pregnancy. He claimed that the ultrasonography report of the Anita had mentioned that she was carrying multiple babies but it was not mentioned that the number of babies was five.

He also added that the infants included two male and three female children. Sources said the mother after the delivery of quintuplet was absolutely fine and healthy.

"It was a normal delivery, one of the infants was delivered back at her home due to which she was rushed to the hospital. The infants are weak and premature, their body parts have not been formed properly, at this stage the infants are vulnerable to different infections," Medical Officer, Dr Indramohan Tiwari said.

However, Kundan Gautam, the father of infants stated "I am a farmer by profession, we got married in 2017 and we already have one child. This was absolutely a surprise for all of us in the family. I am happy to have received this blessing but to bring them all up is definitely going to be a financial challenge for my earnings are very less".
