Lucknow:The Uttar Pradesh government is going to be tough on liquor mafias, who are still engaged in making and selling spurious and poisonous liquor in the state. In this connection, the state government also amended the Excise Act to hang the criminals guilty of making spurious liquor in the state.
Taking serious cognizance of the deaths caused by spurious liquor in the past, the Yogi government also registered 3,421 cases by identifying 586 liquor mafias and arrested more than 534 accused so far. The government also attached the properties worth more than 13 crores of 101 liquor mafias.
According to Sanjay Bhusreddy, Principal Secretary, Excise Department, 2807 cases have been registered against the liquor mafia from 26 August to 5 September this year.
