Azamgarh: Uttar Pradesh Police arrested jailed gangster Abu Salem's nephew Arif from Mumbai today. Arif was in the absconding list of the UP police and a search has been launched for him since long. After arresting him, Arif is being brought to UP's Azamgarh.
Acting on a tip off that Arif was hiding in Mumbai, the UP police reached Mumbai and started searching for him. On Friday morning, police got information that Arif would come to a tea shop near Bandra Hill Road. Following which, the police officers laid a trap for him with the help of Mumbai police.
As soon as Arif arrived at the shop and started sipping tea, the police team nabbed him. The police have raided many places in search of Arif. In the wake of the murder of gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, the Uttar Pradesh police have intensified raids and arrested many absconding criminals.
Shabana Parveen, a resident of Chakla Paharpur in Azamgarh had lodged a police complaint against Arif accusing him of demanding extortion and attempting to grab her property. In a complaint on Thursday, Shabana stated that her husband late Adil Sheikh was the owner of Eastern Distributor and since his death, she is looking after the business.
