Muzaffarnagar:A case has been filed against a party agent for allegedly spreading fake news regarding the Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) on the day of the polling in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar on Saturday.
The incident was reported from the Kasauli polling station of Meerpur assembly seat.
UP: Party agent booked for spreading fake news on EVM The agent, identified as Dhara Singh, has been allegedly accused of making false claims to influence the voting. He had alleged that the button is pressed for BSP is resulting in votes for BJP, police said.
District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey conducted the investigation after taking cognizance and found the complaint's claim to be incorrect.
Following which, a case was registered against Singh under section 171G, 188505 IPC and 125 Public Representation Act in Bhopa Police Station.
In a statement to the media, the District Magistrate said, "A party agent from the Bijnore Lok Sabha constituency in a statement claimed that in polling booth no.2 when the button for the elephant symbol was pressed, the slip with lotus symbol came out. The exact slip that was cast during that time was seen on VVPAT and when the incident was investigated, the claims of the accused were found false and fake," adding that a case under Public Representation Act has been registered against him.
Kasoli polling center which comes under Bijnor Lok Sabha constituency went for elections in the first phase on Thursday.
