UP minister Nand Gopal Nandi receives threat calls; case registered

It is learnt that on 19 April, between 5:55 to 6:05 in the evening, UP cabinet minister Nand Gopal Nandi received four threatening calls from different numbers on the minister's official number.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Nand Gopal Nandi has received death threats by an unknown caller last month even as police have registered a case into the matter, sources said on Friday. An official said that a case has been registered in this regard at Hazrat Ganj police station. In the meantime, three teams including cyber cell and surveillance are have launched a probe into the matter.

It is learnt that the matter is of 19 Apr. A UP police official said that between 5:55 to 6:05 in the evening, UP cabinet minister Nand Gopal Nandi received four threatening calls from different numbers on the minister's official number. The phone was picked up by the minister's staff review officer Shailendra Singh, police sources said.

According to the police sources, the review officer of the UP cabinet minister had informed the Nand Gopal Nandi about the threatening calls on his official number. Later, Minister Nand Gopal Nandi accordingly lodged a complaint letter to DCP Madhya Aparna Rajat Kaushik on 25 Apr. in this regard. After investigation of the case, an FIR was registered at Hazratganj police station on 3 May, police sources said.

Hazratganj police, surveillance cell and cybercrime team are engaged to trace the threat caller. It is pertinent to mention here that that the minister's family has received death threats earlier as well. The last time, Abhilasha Gupta, wife of minister Nand Gopal Nandi had received threat calls on her mobile phone. Following the threat calls, a complaint was lodged on behalf of the minister's wife with SP Prayagraj.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also received death threats. During the investigation into the matter, the police said that the accused had made the threat calls by calling on the helpline number 112. A case was registered in this matter at Sushant Golf City police station. The UP ATS later arrested the accused from Kanpur.
