Pratapgarh (Uttar Pradesh):Thousands of daily wage workers and other migrant labourers have arrived Uttar Pradesh border from Karnataka on Monday in the hope of reaching their homes in far-flung areas on Day 6 of the 21-day lockdown announced by the government.
Almost 1,000 people-men, women and children, were seen arriving at Rajpuria border of Uttar Pradesh by buses. All these buses reached the border of Rajasthan via Madhya Pradesh.
Taking cognizance of media reports concerning the migrant workers who have been rendered jobless due to 21-day nationwide lockdown and have decided to walk back to their homes, the Karnataka state authorities swung into action. Over 28 Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses were deployed to ferry stranded people from the state.
On being informed about the arrival of buses, the police personnel along with the medical team reached the spot. The buses, which reached the Rajpuria border, were transported to the airstrip at Varmandal under the leadership of DSP Beni Prasad.
