The popular Daen Mahamongkol Buddhist Temple has been shut indefinitely as a precautionary measure.

Tourists were in for an unpleasant surprise as they found the gates of the temple locked. A banner was put up at the gate, which said that the temple would remain shut until the coronavirus situation sees an improvement.

Shravasti, which is an important Buddhist pilgrimage center, generally sees an influx of international tourists from countries like China, Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and South Korea.

Rajesh Kumar Mishra, SDM, Ikauna, informed that the Daen Mahamongkol Buddhist Temple was built by a foreign organisation, and has been shut as a precautionary measure.

The district itself is under no threat from the coronavirus, he added.
