23 members of family attacked with acid in Jhansi

After an altercation over drinking water between two families, one of the family attacked the other by throwing Aqua regia -a mixture of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid - on them. 23 members of the family were injured in the attack.

Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh):Twenty three members of a family were attackedwith acid by their neighbour and suffered burn injuries in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district on Tuesday.

Among those attacked, one is said to be in serious condition and the others have been treated for minor burns.

It all started when an argument broke out between two neighbours from Basaar village over drinking water. During the heated exchange, one of the family members -- from goldsmith family threw acid -- used to clean ornaments - on the other family from their terrace.

After a few villagers alerted the police, they reached the spot and started an inquiry into the matter.

"A complaint has been filed and police are on a lookout for those who are on a run," ACP Rahul Srivastav said.

Police said six people have been named in the complaint out of which four have been arrested.
