Tackling Plastic Menace: World's largest 1,650-kg ‘Charkha’ made from waste plastic

The world's largest 1,650-kg 'charkha' (the spinning wheel) made of plastic waste was installed in Noida as part of the message of not using banned plastic. The plastic charkha was inaugurated on Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary by Union Minister Smriti Zubin Irani. The Government has taken this step in order to make people aware of pollution and to stop 'Single-use Plastic'.

Noida: The world's largest plastic spinning wheel has been installed in Sector 94, Noida, as part of the message of not using banned plastic.

The plastic charkha was inaugurated on Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary by Union Minister Smriti Zubin Irani, Gautam Budh Nagar MP Dr Mahesh Sharma, Noida MLA Pankaj Singh and Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Ritu Maheshwari.

Spinning wheel made from plastic waste has been successful in registering its name in India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records.

The total weight of the spinning wheel is 1650 kg, of which 1400 kg of plastic has been used.

The charkha is 14 feet high, 20 feet long and 8 feet wide.

Charkha installed on Noida Sector 94 Mahamaya Flyover, has become a centre of attraction for the drivers who come here.

The Government has taken this step in order to make people aware of pollution and to stop 'Single-use Plastic'.
