Sons get stuck in lockdown, wife performs last rites of husband

A wife in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district performed the last rites of her husband as the sons were not able to attend the funeral due to the lockdown. When her sons got the news of their father's death, they tried to seek permission from the local administration to attend the funeral; but were denied.

Basti:In a heart-wrenching incident, the wife of a deceased man in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district performed his last rites as the sons were not able to come to the funeral due to the lockdown.

Santram Sharma, 70, died on Sunday after his health started deteriorating. His neighbors were preparing to take him to the hospital, but shortly thereafter, he took his last breath.

The deceased Santram Sharma used to do farming and lived with his wife Kailasi Devi.

The sons had gone out of the state to earn a living in Punjab. When they got the news of their father's death, they tried to seek permission from the local administration to attend the funeral; but were denied.

After this, Kailasi Devi decided to conduct the rituals while her sons attended the last rites virtually via video calling.
