SIT to probe alleged 'love jihad' cases in Kanpur

Families of Juhi Lal colony in Kanpur have sought police action against people, who they call as an organised gang, for luring their daughters for marriage and religious conversion. Police have assured of them proper investigation in the case.

Kanpur: Five different families of Juhi Lal colony here have approached the police complaining that their daughters were lured to marriage and then religious conversion by an "organised gang of people" staying in the same area of the city.

SIT to probe alleged 'love jihad' cases in Kanppur

Inspector General of Police (IG) Mohit Agarwal told ETV Bharat here that the families of the girls, who have allegedly been lured to marry Muslim boys, have given him a letter, seeking police investigation into the matter.

Agarwal said that the affected families have alleged that their daughters were converted and named as Muslims after luring into marriage.

The police official said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be constituted to probe the matter keeping in mind the serious nature of the issue.

Reports have suggested that it was being done under alleged 'love jihad'.

Sensing the seriousness of the issue, the IG has decided to get it investigated by an SIT.
