Shiva Linga, other relics unearthed at Ayodhya Ram Temple site

Ever since the work resumed at the site of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on May 11, many ancient artefacts like idols, pillars and other such relics have been unearthed. The work is going on in line with social distancing norms amid the lockdown.

Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh): After the coronavirus induced lockdown had halted work towards the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, levelling work at the site finally resumed last week.

"After obtaining permission from the Ayodhya DM, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has resumed levelling work on the temple site," Vinod Bansal, the national spokesperson of the Vishva Hindu Parishad said.

"Owing to the COVID-19 lockdown, all social distancing norms are being followed at the site, three earth-movers, one crane, two tractors, and ten labourers have been pressed into service," he added.

All the metal barricades erected around the makeshift temple are being also removed.

Bansal said that ever since levelling work was resumed at the site on May 11, many idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses have been unearthed along with a few other ancient relics.

The objects which were unearthed include, an ancient flower vase, arch stones, seven pillars made of black touch stone, six pillars of red sandstone, and a five-foot carved Shiva Linga, he said.

Champat Rai, the General Secretary of the Trust, said that carvings on a sandstone were also found at the site.

"Discovered pillars in debris of the structure and carvings on sandstone. Found a Shivling there a similar one at Kuber Teela," he said.

Bansal said that earlier when digging work was carried out at the site on the directions of the High Court, such relics were found. Now when work has resumed, many more items are now being unearthed.

All the artefacts are being carefully preserved, he said.
