Security beefed-up in Saharanpur after protest rumours

Police started strengthening security after rumours were spread through social media platforms that Muslims would get together after Friday prayers to protest against France President for making "anti-Islam" statements.

Saharanpur: In view of rumours of protest against French President Emmanuel Macron, who have been facing condemnation from several Muslims countries for defending the "blasphemous" caricatures of Prophet Muhammad, police have made heavy security arrangements in the city even as Muslim religious leaders have appealed to people to maintain peace.

Police started strengthening security after rumours were spread through social media platforms that Muslims would get together after Friday prayers to protest against France President for making "anti-Islam" statements.

Security personnel of different agencies such as Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary, Rapid Action Force (RAF) along with UP police personnel have been deployed in all sensitive areas to keep watch on security-related developments.

SP, City, Premchand told ETV Bharat that security forces are on high alert and peace would be maintained at all cost.

Meanwhile, Muslim religious leaders have also urged people to maintain peace and do not any attention to such rumours.
