SC reserves order on transfer of Hathras case to Delhi

The apex court reserved its order on the petition seeking transfer of Hathras case from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi. The advocate of the victim's family expressed lack of confidence in Uttar Pradesh government for a fair trial of the case.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its orders on the plea seeking court-monitored Special Investigation Team or Central Bureau of Investigation in the Hathras case.

The bench led by the Chief Justice Of India, S A Bobde heard the plea filed by Satyama Dubey. The petitioners demanded the probe to be under the surveillance of Allahabad High court. The victim's family also demanded the trial to be shifted to Delhi after the investigation.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaisin contended before the court that the petitioners are not satisfied with the witness protection programme by the Uttar Pradesh government. Jaisin expressed lack of trust in Uttar Pradesh government for a fair trial of the case.

Director-General of Police, DGP told the court that they are ready to handover the protection to the CRPF but that should not be a reflection on the UP police. The state government also informed the court about protection and conveyed of compliance to court-monitored probe, if required, as per the petitioner's demand.

Advocate for the accused argued before the court that the victim's family should reveal details of the investigation as it was not entertained by the court.
