SC allows construction of additional terminal at Agra airport

The Apex court on Wednesday permitted the construction of an additional terminal at the Agra airport. It has, however, asked aviation authorities to restrain from allowing additional flights to operate from the new facility.

New Delhi:The Supreme court today allowed the construction of an additional terminal at Agra airport but asked the authorities to restrain from allowing additional flights to operate from the new facility as it can damage the environment and heritage.

The Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said, "If you increase the number of jets coming in then it stands to reason that there will be more pollution which will spoil the environment, the Taj and other monuments."

The apex court asked the centre to prepare a detailed report on the proposed increase in civilian air traffic to Agra. The court will examine the impact of the new terminal on air traffic on pollution.

It also asked the railways to suggest ways of transporting any increased civilian passengers to Agra.
