Rising river threatens flood-hit villages in Ayodhya town

Faizabad: Scores of villages in Ayodhya's Rudauli tehsil have been flooded after the water level in Sarayu river began rising causing concern among the villagers.

A local resident - Manju from Kathy Majha village on Sunday said, "We are facing a lot of trouble for the past two months. Our home and agricultural land have been damaged due to floods. The water level keeps rising and receding."

She said that their crops have been damaged since the start of monsoon and she is finding it difficult to manage her family of six.

However, another resident said the government has been providing help through various means.

Ram Prasad Chaurasia, the village head in Kathy said, "Floods have severely affected our area. We have made shelters here. We are providing a meal twice a day. We are doing the best we can. The district administration is also helping us."

Most parts of Uttar Pradesh have been receiving heavy rainfall over the past few days, throwing life out of gear. Incessant rainfall has battered the state, thus worsening the situation to turn into flood-like conditions.

Heavy rains have hit the state when it is already reeling under the pandemic, disrupting the normal life. Telecommunication and electricity services have been snapped, leaving behind a huge trail of destruction in the state. Around 870 villages are submerged in water after incessant rainfall over the past days that have raised water levels in the rivers.

Rescue and relief operations have been launched by the NDRF teams and relief work has been going on in the affected areas.
